Happy Campers (A Facilitator's story)

Updated: Sep 15, 2019

For this section, we had the opportunity to be facilitators at the DSA 233 camp which hosted all the incoming student leaders of UP that fall under the Department of Student Affairs. Afterwards I reflected on my strengths, weaknesses and what the experience has taught me.

Let me start with my weaknesses. I consider myself to be a soft spoken person in general, which was quite challenging when I had to communicate certain things to over a hundred students. I had to navigate through my passive nature in order to get a certain message across. I also struggled to multitask in the beginning of the camp as multiple students would come to me with different issues and questions at the same time. I had to learn how to prioritise properly and to split tasks up between my fellow facilitators. My strengths however, lies with my approach-ability. I am a friendly and open person so students didn't hesitate to come to me when they felt uncertain. I have learnt that it is important to pay attention to the tiny details such as specific times and locations. I am usually a person who deals with a problem when I get to it but this camp has taught me the importance of planning and paying attention to the minor things.
